Where have you been??!! HA! Who knew my blog was so popular?! I apologize for the lack of posts the past few weeks but we had our move and were without internet for a couple of weeks. As you all know how frustrating it is talking to customer service, just imagine it with a "Singlish" accent! But finally, we are back in business. We also had Kelsey here for a 10 day visit but I will post about that later.
The move is FANTASTIC! We are so thrilled to be in our own place with our own stuff. It is funny the things that become so important to you when you don't have them. I have figured out the secrets of why they are so skinny here... everything is about half the size as it is in the USA. Cups included which is one of the items we were so happy to have back. We looked EVERYWHERE for a normal size cup so that we didn't have to continue going back and forth to the kitchen to fill up. No such thing here. Then I ordered groceries online so we could stock the kitchen with the basics. When it all arrived, I just had to laugh. No such thing as "family size" here! The box of cream that I ordered was smaller than a juice box. I am still working on my conversions so I now know to look at the sizes before ordering. Anyway, I'm guessing this will all help towards my eating plan once I start dieting!
We bought the essentials and will add to it as we live here. We are hoping we can find some cool pieces that we will put in our forever home. The babies room is still a work in progress but it is coming along. I think most of you heard the story of how we chose the bedding but my plan had been to start working on the room back in Houston when we were adopting. I needed something neutral due to not knowing the sex so I went with yellow and blue. The funny thing is that when Pottery Barn sent me the bedding, they included two sets when I had only ordered one. Not a month later we found out we were pregnant and with twins! STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I don't know what you have pictured in your head of what a house/condo looks like in Singapore but I had an itty, bitty place with holes to squat in in my mind. Thank goodness I was wrong. HOWEVER, they do have the holes to squat in around town in the public bathrooms. There is typically at least one stall with a squatty potty. I have only had to go there once. This picture is actually one I found on the internet as the ones here are much nicer as far as squatty potties go!
The place we finally picked is a 4 bedroom + study with 4.5 bathroooms. We have a very nice view and there is a mini-mart within the condo for any last minute essentials. This will be helpful if we run out of milk, bread or need something for the babies. Not having a car can be a pain when you need to go to the grocery store. The efficiency here is incredible when it comes to getting licenses, contracts, banking accounts, etc. No long lines and you are in and out in minutes. The inefficiency comes to running out for last minute items. If Joe is not here, then it is calling a cab and then only getting the items you need that you can carry back. It is a delicate dance but I'm getting better at it. Thank goodness I'm a planner and can think ahead... I'm not sure my sister, Caron, would be as successful! LOVE YOU! HA!
I will be posting more in the next few days about Kelsey's holiday and a baby update. All is good and we are starting the countdown!!!!!!!!
